;)

The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type any given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare.

I am planning to install typewriters in public spaces around the world and invite people to type anything they want, ideally free thought as in surrealist automatic writing (typing on a typewriter is ideal for this as it slows down the writing process to a pace that allows you to think just enough to keep some kind of line of thought however random) but can also be a comment about its location (for example if in a gallery it could be a comment about the current show or if in a jazz club, about the music), it could be a statement, a thought, a question (or an answer to a previous entry), it could be a criticism (hopefully constructive) about this project and it could be a suggestion about how infinite monkeys could change so that people can not only provide content for it but also shape the project.

The plan is for more and more infinite monkeys typewriter bases to be set up and more and more people contributing  to it and to be open ended so potentially an infinite amount of typed entries which must mean that eventually get to discovering the meaning of  art.

I am starting with studio1.1, London but looking for more and more space to become infinite monkeys bases. All it needs is a small desk space, large enough to have a typewriter and a folder. A typewritten instruction on the wall behind (these will be emailed to the hosts who will have to type it). The typewritten pages will be added to the folder and will stay in the host space. Ideally, people will photograph their typewritten contribution and/or photos of themselves typing or in front of the typewriters and these will be uploaded to this site, eventually connecting a web infinite monkeys typewriter bases all over the world ; a kind of analogue world wide web.

If you would like to contribute you will be able to find the closest base or if you would like to become a host, please get in touch.
